DataMatrix guide

What is a DataMatrix code?

DataMatrix is a compact two-dimensional barcode often used for small labels, component traceability, electronics, manufacturing, healthcare and industrial identification. It can store useful data in a smaller area than many linear barcodes.

DataMatrix is a strong choice for tiny labels, but scanner support and print quality matter. Test the actual label size, material and printer before running production batches.

Format FAQ

When should I use DataMatrix?

Use DataMatrix when you need a compact code for small labels, parts, components, electronics, healthcare items or industrial traceability workflows.

Is DataMatrix better than QR Code?

Neither is always better. DataMatrix is often preferred for compact industrial labels, while QR Codes are more familiar for consumer phone scanning and URL workflows.

Can DataMatrix be generated in bulk?

Yes. Batch DataMatrix generation works well for serialized part numbers, lot codes, asset IDs and imported Excel or CSV data.
