How to Print 60 × 40 mm Thermal Barcode Labels at True Size
Set an exact 60 × 40 mm label, choose 203 or 300 DPI, prevent browser scaling and verify a thermal barcode before batch printing.

A 60 × 40 mm label should not be placed on an A4 page and enlarged by eye. The design, browser print page and printer driver must agree on the same physical media size.
Design in millimetres, render in printer dots
Set the label to 60 mm wide and 40 mm high. The printer converts that size into dots: at 203 DPI it is approximately 480 × 320 dots; at 300 DPI it is approximately 709 × 472 dots. Rounding is normal, but the physical dimensions must remain the source of truth.

203 DPI or 300 DPI?
203 DPI is usually adequate for a comfortably sized Code 128 shipping or inventory label. Choose 300 DPI for smaller text, compact QR codes, dense data or narrow labels. A higher DPI cannot compensate for a barcode that has been squeezed below a practical physical width.
Keep the scan area clean
Leave the generated quiet zone around a 1D barcode and the clear border around a 2D code. Do not place a frame, product text or cut line in that area. Use dark marks on a light, non-patterned background and avoid low-opacity artwork behind the symbol.
Use the thermal print layout
- Select a 60 × 40 mm label in the application.
- Open Print / PDF and choose thermal-label output, not A4 proofing.
- In the system print dialog, select the same 60 × 40 mm custom media.
- Use 100% scale. Disable “fit to page,” browser headers and footers.
- Confirm the correct orientation and media-sensing mode in the printer driver.
If the system preview still shows an A4 sheet, the operating system is using an A4 printer preset. Change the printer/media preset; browser CSS cannot force a disconnected office printer to expose a thermal paper size.
Test before the production run
Print one label and measure it with a ruler. Scan it with the actual warehouse or retail scanner, not only a phone. Check the first and last labels on the roll for alignment. If the print drifts, calibrate the printer's gap or black-mark sensor rather than moving every layer in the artwork.
For a paper proof, use A4 mode: the 60 × 40 mm design should stay at true size and be centred or automatically arranged as multiple labels. The A4 proof is for review; the thermal output is for the roll printer.
